Saturday was the first full day of the Celebrate-Commemorate Memorial Day celebration in the Seneca County village were the national holiday first started in 1866.
Thousands turned out for the parade and to listen to music and visit the vendors in LaFayette Park.
On Oak Island along the Cayuga-Seneca Canal there is a Civil War Encampment and President Abraham Lincoln spoke to those gathered under the nearby picnic shelter.
Sunday is the car show from 9am to 3pm through downtown on Routes 5&20. There are other events and the National Memorial Day Museum will be open.
Waterloo celebrates on the holiday weekend, and holds it’s commemoration on the traditional date of May 30th.
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the official declaration in 1966 proclaiming Waterloo as the Official Birthplace of Memorial Day.
