A second Finger Lakes group is giving away free prom dresses to high school girls throughout the region.
The Victor United Methodist Church’s Community Clothes Closet is hosting a Pop-Up Prom Dress giveaway at its 102 E Main Street location.
Karen Hansen, who started the project, says financial status shouldn’t dictate enjoying an annual tradition, telling Finger Lakes News Radio “it’s a needed thing. I think proms and balls are sort of a right of high school and you shouldn’t have to miss it because you can’t get a dress.”
Besides dresses, accessories like shoes, jewellery, make up, and purses are also available.
The giveaway will stay open until June 1st. Its hours of operation are 4:00-6:00p on Mondays and Thursdays, and 1:00a-12:00p on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Anyone with questions can reach out to Hansen at 585-703-7421.
A similar giveaway is taking place in the Village of Aurora. Both envisioned helping local girls but have seen people coming to them from all over the Finger Lakes region to pick out their prom dresses.
