Police say the person responsible for a shooting that happened outside of a Canandaigua bar Saturday night has been arrested.
It is alleged that after he got into a fight with another person inside Bubby’s Tavern on Phoenix Street and was removed by security, 28-year-old Leon McDaniel, of Brighton, brandished a firearm and shot it several times into a crowd on the street. An innocent bystander was struck by a bullet and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Police say the 38-year-old woman underwent surgery and is now home recovering.
McDaniel, who fled, the scene, was arrested Tuesday night in Brighton and charged with assault, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
The Canandaigua Police Department was assisted by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Services New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force-Rochester Division, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
