Authorities report that the victim of a violent motel incident in Canandaigua last Friday is now listed as stable, but remains in critical condition.
53-year-old John D. Kirby of Canandaigua was seriously injured during an altercation inside Room 1 of the D&D Motel. Deputies say he was struck with an axe, suffering severe skull injuries. Kirby was treated at the scene before being airlifted by LifeNet to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The suspect, 27-year-old Justin Rogers, also of Canandaigua, has been charged with Assault in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony. Rogers was arraigned in Ontario County CAP Court and is being held without bail pending further court proceedings.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Officials have not released additional details about what led to the attack.
