UPDATE: Authorities recovered a body on Thursday following a kayaking incident near the Vine Valley boat launch in the Town of Middlesex.
Yates County 911 received the initial report at approximately 10:19 a.m. After an extensive search involving boats, drones, and divers, the body was located. Officials have not released the identity of the individual to allow for family notification.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
Multiple agencies from Yates and Ontario counties assisted in the six-hour search and recovery operation. They included the Yates County Office of Emergency Services, Middlesex FD, Branchport KeukaPark FD/Dive Team, Rushville FD, Canandaigua FD, Cheshire FD, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office dive team
Emergency crews are responding to a reported kayak accident on Canandaigua Lake this morning.
At around 10:25 a.m., Yates County 911 received a call from the Vine Valley Trailer Park reporting an overturned kayak about 50 feet from shore. One person reportedly fell into the water and could not be seen, though they were heard calling for help.
Multiple agencies are on scene, including Cheshire, Canandaigua, Middlesex, and Rushville fire and ambulance crews, as well as the Branchport/Keuka Park Fire Department’s dive team. The rescue operation is ongoing.
