A Phelps couple suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after they were involved in a one-car accident just after midnight Monday morning.
An investigation determined the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel and subsequently drove off State Route 96 near the intersection with Newark Street in Phelps and struck a street sign and utility pole. The car then struck a guardrail and overturned.
Teealisa Burdick and Kevin Burdick were taken to Strong by Finger Lakes Ambulance.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office stated a ticket was issued to the driver for an unsafe lane change but did not indicate who was driving the car in its report.
