Two people were injured late Saturday night when a golf cart overturned in Sodus Point after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer, authorities said.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a black EZGO golf cart was traveling eastbound on Bay Street with four occupants — two in the front seats and two in the rear-facing seats — when the driver attempted to avoid a deer crossing the roadway. The evasive maneuver caused the cart to tip onto its driver’s side.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, while the passenger seated on the rear driver’s side was airlifted to the same hospital by Mercy Flight. The extent of their injuries was not released. The two passengers on the passenger side of the cart declined medical attention at the scene.
The golf cart was towed to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Impound Lot. Authorities continue to investigate.
