Geneva High School seniors Madeline Askin and Malcolm King have been named Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, honoring their exceptional academic promise.

Principal Matt Heath presented each student with a Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Nationwide, about 34,000 students received Commended status this year, ranking among the top 50,000 scorers on the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“They’ve worked hard and set a great example for their peers,” Heath said. “The school community is proud to see these students recognized for their dedication and effort.”

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for the NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
