Two men are in custody after an early-morning robbery and vehicle chase that began outside the Microtel Hotel in Victor on Monday, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and New York State Police were called to the hotel on County Road 42 around 3:25 a.m. after a victim ran into the lobby reporting their car had just been stolen. The victim told authorities they were attacked by two males — one armed with a knife — before the suspects took the vehicle. The victim declined medical treatment.
A responding deputy soon spotted the stolen vehicle heading north on State Route 96 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled toward the Monroe County line. Ontario County deputies and state troopers pursued the vehicle, with Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies joining the response.
Near Rustic Pines on Route 96, the stolen vehicle pulled off the road, and both suspects ran into a wooded area. The passenger, identified as Yavier Harris, was caught after a brief foot chase. The second suspect, English Reynolds, was later found with help from a Monroe County Sheriff’s drone and a Rochester Police K9 team.
Investigators say the incident was a targeted attack involving individuals known to one another, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Both men were taken into custody and are awaiting arraignment.
Reynolds faces multiple counts including first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree criminal contempt, third-degree grand larceny, and several vehicle and traffic offenses related to fleeing police. Harris is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and a vehicle and traffic violation for not wearing a seatbelt.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
