Two Arrested After 11 Dogs Found in Unsanitary Conditions in Geneva Apartment

A multi-agency investigation concerning the welfare of animals at a Middle Street residence in Geneva has resulted in 11 counts of animal cruelty against two residents.

At the end of January, city of Geneva and Ontario County officials received a report regarding unsanitary conditions in an apartment where 12 to 13 dogs were allegedly living. A search warrant was executed on February 10th and authorities found 11 dogs, a 4-year-old female Pitbull, three juvenile female Pitbulls and seven puppies allegedly living in deplorable conditions with urine and feces on the floor. All of the animals were taken to the Humane Society and treated for internal and external parasites.

42-year-old Dawn Cameron and 39-year-old Dustin Bush were issued appearance tickets. Some of the dogs reportedly have developed parvovirus, which resulted in the shelter being temporarily closed for deep cleaning while the affected dogs remain quarantined.

The Ontario County Humane Society, in collaboration with the Ontario County Child Protective and Family Services, Geneva Police Department, and City of Geneva Code Enforcement were all involved in the investigation.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
