Trump Could Cut Some of the Finger Lakes National Forest

SHARE NOW

The Finger Lakes National Forest is New York’s only National Forest. The forest lies on a ridge between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes in Schuyler and Seneca Counties.

Reports say the Trump administration is planning to cut some of the Finger Lakes National Forest in order to reach a goal of increasing United States timber production by 25%. President Trump signed and executive order last month calling for the immediate expansion of American Timber Production.

The Forest Service has been accepting comments on a new recreation plan for parts of the forest. A public meeting will be held on May 22 at the Valois-Logan-Hector Volunteer Fire Department in Hector.
