A Texas truck driver was ticketed after his tractor-trailer struck an overpass on the New York State Thruway late Friday morning, sending debris into another vehicle and injuring a passenger.
State Police say the crash happened around 11:41 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 315.9, just before Exit 41 in the town of Tyre. The truck, driven by 32-year-old Mokhtar Mohammadi of Houston, was traveling west when it hit the Route 89 overpass.
Debris from the impact struck a nearby vehicle, and a passenger was taken to Geneva General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mohammadi was not hurt but was issued a ticket for operating an over-height vehicle.
The Thruway has since reopened in both directions. However, an inspection revealed damage to the Route 89 overpass. As a safety precaution, the southbound lane of Route 89 will be closed, and temporary traffic signals will be installed to allow alternating traffic flow in both directions.
