Three local startups are among 20 finalists advancing in the Grow-NY food and agriculture competition, which will award $3 million in prize money this fall.
Finger Foods Farm of Bloomfield, Renewal Mill of Canandaigua, and Seen Nutrition of Ithaca were selected from a field of 270 applicants worldwide. The contest, now in its seventh year, is designed to spur innovation and economic growth in Upstate New York.
Finger Foods Farm, Bloomfield: Finger Foods Farm produces a line of vertically-integrated, health-forward frozen soups, made with local ingredients, processed at regional businesses, and branded to celebrate New York’s bounty.
Renewal Mill, Canandaigua: Renewal Mill creates premium, gluten-free, vegan, and upcycled baking ingredients and snacks by transforming nutritious byproducts from food manufacturing into delicious, sustainable products.
Seen Nutrition, Ithaca: Seen Nutrition is a food tech startup in the menopause market, initially focused on bone health, with a patented dietary calcium chew made with dairy produced in Central New York.
The competition, funded through New York State’s Upstate Revitalization Initiatives and managed by Cornell University’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement, requires finalists to commit to growing jobs, partnerships, or operations in the 22-county Grow-NY region.
Winners will be announced at the Grow-NY Food and Ag Summit, set for November 12–13 in Canandaigua. One startup will claim a $1 million top prize, with additional awards ranging from $250,000 to $500,000.
Registration is now open for in-person and virtual attendance at the Grow-NY Summit: https://cvent.me/E10znv
