Staffing Shortages Hit Fishers Fire District as Dissolution Proposal Looms

SHARE NOW

The Fishers Fire District is facing staffing shortages that are now impacting operations at one of its stations. The fire district’s union says Station #1 is going unstaffed for the first time in nearly a decade due to a lack of personnel.

A sign posted on the door of Station #1 in Victor confirms that it will no longer be staffed around the clock. Residents living in the southern end of the district are advised to call 911 in emergencies. Crews will respond from the High Street station, but the union warns that response times will be significantly delayed.

The staffing shortfall comes as the district faces uncertainty over a controversial proposal to dissolve the department. That proposal, introduced earlier this year, cited “future financial instability” as the main reason for dissolving the district by the end of summer. However, the vote was delayed.

The union has not said whether the staffing issue is directly tied to the dissolution effort, but it is raising concerns about public safety and response capability moving forward.
