A warning about yet another scam targeting the Finger Lakes: scammers are calling residents, pretending to be Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies, and claiming a loved one needs bail money right now.
The callers are asking for cash, credit cards, or even Venmo payments. Sheriff David Cirencione says it’s a scam, plain and simple.
“The Sheriff’s Office, the Ontario County Court, or any court, will never demand payment over the phone. If you get one of these calls, don’t share personal information, don’t send money, and hang up immediately,” said Sheriff Cirencione.
He adds you can contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at (585) 394-4560 to verify any questions or concerns.
