The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association will hold its annual meeting this Thursday at the Oasis Pavilion at Hazlitt Vineyards.
Along with electing board members, reviewing finances, and outlining organizational plans, the Association will showcase several new and ongoing projects designed to protect and better understand Seneca Lake.
President Bill Roege says the work includes monitoring invasive species, tracking nutrient flow, and studying harmful algal blooms.
“We’re going to talk about this Hemlock woody adelgid program,” Roege said. “We’ve also got a new program where we’re measuring the stream flow of 10 streams coming into the lake. So this is something brand new and unusual for most lakes to have, and that helps us better understand where nutrients are coming from. We have another project to try to understand how the nutrients vary nearshore versus offshore and whether that has something to do with the HABs.”
Thursday’s event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by the formal meeting at 6. More details are available at SenecaLake.org
