Organizers of Canal Fest have announced that the annual event will not take place in 2025 due to the ongoing revitalization project along the Canal and in People’s Park. The decision comes after months of deliberation and consideration of alternative locations, ultimately leading the planning committee to determine that relocating the festival this year is not feasible.
Organizers say while the news may come as a disappointment to festival-goers, they emphasize that the upgrades to the Canal Front and People’s Park will ultimately enhance the experience for future celebrations. The board considered various options but cited the complexity of moving key festival elements—such as the popular Duck Race—along with logistical challenges as factors in their decision.
“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of community support and the many offers to host the festival elsewhere,” Haidee Oropallo, Chair of the Canal Fest Committee said in a statement. “After careful evaluation, we concluded that relocating the event in 2025 simply isn’t feasible. However, these necessary improvements will ensure an even better festival experience when Canal Fest returns in 2026.”
Although the festival will take a one-year hiatus, organizers encourage residents to stay engaged with community events by volunteering for the It’s A Wonderful Life Festival 2025 and the 2026 Canal Fest.
