Seneca County Sheriff’s Promotional and Pinning Ceremony

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office conducted a Promotional and Pinning Ceremony for six of its members on January 10th. These promotions were made as a result of vacancies with the recent retirements and internal movements within the organization.

Sheriff Thompson and Undersheriff Melinda Marquart are proud to announce the following:

Richard Reed was promoted to the rank of Chief Deputy and will assume the duties of overall operations within the agency. Chief Deputy Reed will serve as the third in command of the Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Strohm was promoted to the rank of Investigator Lieutenant and will serve as the Commanding Officer of the Criminal Investigation Division overseeing major crimes, narcotics enforcement, and crimes against children.

Jeffrey Steuer was promoted to the rank of Road Patrol Lieutenant and will serve as the Commanding Officer of the Road Patrol Division where he will oversee the uniformed Deputy Sheriffs and Sergeants.

Jason Ward was promoted to the rank of Investigator and will be responsible for handling felony-level criminal cases within the Criminal Investigation Division.

Brian Sahler was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to uniformed Deputy Sheriffs.

James Palmer was promoted to the rank of Investigator and will be responsible for handling felony-level criminal cases within the Criminal Investigation Division.

Sheriff Thompson added, “I wish these six great officers well in their new roles and look forward to seeing them continue to excel in their careers. It is our goal to celebrate our employees and their accomplishments.”

Undersheriff Marquart added, “I am very proud of them and their courage to protect and serve our County. All six are mentors and will be excellent in their new roles.”
