State Senator Pamela Helming has been recognized by the American Red Cross as one of its 2026 Legislators of the Year.
The honor was presented during a ceremony in Albany on March 11 as part of Red Cross Month. The American Red Cross in New York State recognized six state lawmakers for their commitment to the organization’s mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering during emergencies.
Helming was recognized by the Red Cross Western New York Region for her support of several aspects of the organization’s work in her district, including biomedical services and blood donation efforts.
In accepting the award, Helming said the recognition is meaningful given the long history of the Red Cross in the region, noting that Clara Barton established the first Red Cross chapter in Dansville.
Helming also pointed to the organization’s role in responding to emergencies and supporting communities in times of crisis.
“I have been present when Red Cross volunteers have shown up in the middle of the night to provide emergency assistance following tornadoes, devastating fires and floods,” Helming said. “I’ve also been proud to work with the Red Cross on annual blood drives to help secure critical supply needs.”
She added that she is grateful for the recognition and for the opportunity to support an organization that continues to make a difference for families across the region.
Five other state lawmakers were also honored this year: Assemblymembers Steven Raga, Dana Levenberg, Charles Lavine, Carrie Woerner, and Senator April Baskin.
Red Cross leaders said the legislators were recognized for their efforts to support emergency preparedness, disaster response, and community resilience across New York State.
