The investigation into a complaint from the Super 8 Motel in Canandaigua over the weekend resulted in the arrest of a Schuyler County man.
Benjamin Alger, of Burdett, is accused of physically assaulting a 16-year-old girl left in his care. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said there was a known familial relationship between Alger and the victim, and that was all of the information they could share at this time. The 51-year-old is alleged to have prevented the teen from escaping by physically restraining her and placing his hands around her throat.
The 16-year-old was taken to Thompson Hospital for her injuries. Alger fled the Super 8 before police arrived and was ultimately taken into custody in Schuyler County.
Alger was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful imprisonment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
