As Christmas approaches, The Salvation Army is making a last-minute plea to the community to help ensure that local children experience the joy of the holiday season and support critical services for families in need year-round.
Every year, The Salvation Army in Geneva distributes gifts to families who may not otherwise be able to provide them for their children. With time running short and over 80 Angel Tree tags not returned, The Salvation Army urgently needs donations of new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children of all ages. Donations can be dropped off at the Citadel at 41 North Street no later than Tuesday, December 17. Drop-off times are Monday, 12/16 from 9:30-5 and Tuesday, 12/17 from 9:30-4.
In addition to gifts for children, The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to ring bells at its iconic red kettles. The generosity of community members who drop a few coins or bills into the kettles helps provide much-needed resources for local services that support individuals and families throughout the year. These services include food assistance, emergency utility and rent funds, youth services, and much more. The money raised through the kettles stays local, directly benefiting neighbors in need.
“The need for assistance is greater than ever, and every dollar raised through the kettles and every gift donated to our Christmas efforts will make a real difference in the lives of families in our community,” said Major Eunice Champlin, Geneva Salvation Army. “We are grateful for the support of our volunteers, donors, and community members who make it possible for us to continue our mission of helping those who need it most, not just during the holidays, but all year long.”
