“Run for America” Runs Through Ontario County

He’s like the Energizer bunny. He keeps going and going and going…

Noah Coughlan continued his “Run for America: A Tribute to the American People” in the Finger Lakes on Tuesday.  He recently completed his run across Vermont, his 42nd state, and entered New York near Hoosick on his nationwide journey. His route through New York has taken him through Albany, Utica, and Syracuse, before reaching the Finger Lakes this week. Noah started in Seneca Falls on Tuesday morning and was in Geneva at midday.  By around 4 p.m., he is expected to reach Canandaigua, where he will stay for the evening.

With members from the Geneva Police and Fire Departments, along with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, including Sheriff David Cirencione, and New York State Police set to guide him through the county, Coughlan greeted each as he made his way to Seneca Lake State Park on Routes 5 and 20.  Coughlan said one of the goals he set for this run is to promote unity across the country.

Coughlan is no stranger to long-distance endurance challenges. He has previously completed four full coast-to-coast runs across the United States in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2023, as well as a 600-mile run around Ireland in 2020.

As of late December 2025, Coughlan was well into the northeastern portion of his journey. He is expected to finish the continental United States in Oregon around May 2026, then run approximately 1,000 miles across Alaska before completing his journey across all 50 states on July 4, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawaii — coinciding with the nation’s 250th birthday.
