RTS Adds Service for Ovid Residents Impacted by Fire

SHARE NOW

Due to the devastating fire that destroyed several businesses in the Village of Ovid, including the Big M grocery store, Regional Transit Service has added a new service to its operation in Seneca County to provide access to shopping destinations for Ovid residents. The new service operates on Mondays and Thursdays and takes customers from Ovid to the Tops and Walmart in Waterloo. The schedule for the new service is available on the RTS website.

“The RTS team is happy to be able to step up and help our neighbors as they recover and rebuild from the fire that devastated the Village of Ovid last month,” said RTS CEO Miguel Velázquez. “I thank New York State Senator Tom O’Mara, New York State Assemblymen Phil Palmesano and Jeff Gallahan, and Ovid Mayor Aaron Roisen for their leadership and partnership in getting this new route set up. We hope this service helps provide some sense of normalcy as our neighbors work to overcome the challenges from the fire.”

In a joint statement, State Senator Tom O’Mara, State Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, and State Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan, who represents Seneca County, said, “We greatly appreciate the prompt action from RTS to our request to provide the community of Ovid with this specific bus route and enhanced schedule providing transportation service to Tops, Walmart, and the County Office Building in Seneca Falls. The outpouring of local and regional support to help Ovid recover and begin rebuilding has been incredible and inspiring. Responses like this one from RTS, recognizing that local residents and families have been cut off from everyday and vital needs and services, are making all the difference. We look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Roisen, Supervisor Borst, and other community leaders and organizations to be helpful in any way we can move forward.”
