Two Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) Council youth from Romulus were among a total of five council members nationally recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) for their community service in 2024.

Girl Scout Seniors Rachel Gillan and Lauryn Werner from Troop 40843 each earned the Young Adult Level Bronze Award. Rachel gave 100.25, and Lauryn gave 107 hours in service to their community. Together, these two outstanding teens from GSNYPENN Service Unit 405 contributed 207.25 hours to the betterment of Romulus through Girl Scouting, local volunteerism, and working with youth at their school.

“We’re incredibly proud of Rachel and Lauryn for earning this distinguished honor,” says GSNYPENN CEO Julie Dale. “They exemplify what it means to live out the Girl Scout Mission by taking initiative and making meaningful contributions to their community.”

Established in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the President’s Volunteer Service Award honors individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism over 12 months or across a lifetime. The award celebrates the positive impact of volunteers and encourages others to follow their lead in strengthening communities across the United States.
