The battle over the Seneca Meadows landfill has taken another turn.
A group of residents, local business owners, and environmental advocates, including Seneca Lake Guardian, filed a lawsuit in Albany County Monday against the landfill’s operator and the state DEC. The lawsuit seeks an immediate abatement of the nuisance conditions and an injunction preventing the DEC from issuing a permit to expand the Waterloo landfill.
The state’s largest landfill is currently slated to close next year, but a proposed expansion would keep it operating through 2040.
