The former assistant principal at Geneva High School, accused of inappropriate conduct with a student, is scheduled to stand trial next summer.
13WHAM reports 51-year-old James Nuñez, 51, is set to appear in court on July 28 on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. Police say the alleged incident occurred on November 18, with Nuñez arrested approximately two weeks later.
Court records allege that Nuñez placed a student in a headlock-style hold, kissed the student on the cheek or neck, and followed them down a hallway while keeping his arm around them.
The Geneva City School District said Nuñez was placed on administrative leave after concerns were reported, and he later resigned from his position. He began working for the district in September 2023.
Nuñez pleaded not guilty to the charges on December 8. A no-contact order remains in place protecting the student involved.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
