New information has emerged in the murder investigation in Newark. Police say the victim, 49-year-old Conan Guard, was the roommate of the suspect, 35-year-old Jared Nesmith.
According to reporting by the Times of Wayne County, the stabbing is believed to have stemmed from an argument between the two men inside their home on Cuyler Street.
Nesmith was arrested on September 30 after Newark police received a tip about a possible homicide. During questioning, he allegedly directed investigators to the Zurich Bog Trail in Sodus, where Guard’s body was later recovered by a State Police K9 unit. The remains were transported to the Monroe County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Nesmith is charged with second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse. He is being held without bail at the Wayne County Jail.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
