Red Creek Woman Charged After Disabled Man Goes Missing, Hitchhikes to Sodus

SHARE NOW

A Red Creek woman has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a physically disabled individual following an incident earlier this week.

The arrest of 61-year-old Shannon Wade stems from multiple 911 calls about a disabled man under Wade’s care who reportedly went missing and managed to hitchhike from Red Creek to the Village of Sodus without her knowledge.

According to investigators, Wade located the man partway through his journey, called 911, and then left him on the side of the road. Authorities allege she failed to take appropriate action to ensure the man’s safety.

Wade has been charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree, a serious charge under New York State law.

She was transported to the Wayne County Jail and held to await arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court. Further proceedings will be scheduled at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
