The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association is hosting a special educational event on Saturday that’s focused on raising awareness about aquatic invasive species. The event, known as the Aquatic Invasive Species Landing Blitz, will be held at both Sampson State Park and Severne Point, with funding support from the Great Lakes Commission.
According to the Association, aquatic invasive species pose a significant threat to our local ecosystems, impacting biodiversity and disrupting natural habitats. The goal of Saturday’s event is to educate the community about the importance of preventing the spread of these species and promoting responsible recreational activities.
Boaters using these launches and visitors of Sampson State Park will have the opportunity to learn about the various invasive species affecting our local waters, understand their ecological impacts, and discover practical strategies to prevent their spread.
This educational event, run by the Lake Association’s staff and volunteers, aims to empower the public with the knowledge and tools needed to become active stewards of our aquatic environments. Families, nature enthusiasts, and community members of all ages are encouraged to come and learn about prevention methods to help stop the spread of invasive species throughout the Finger Lakes at Sampson State Park and Severne Point on Saturday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
