The City of Geneva will hold a public hearing on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the possible sale of Loomis Woods, a 15-acre wooded parcel on the city’s north side.
The property, donated to the city in 1909, is used by students and residents for walking and nature study. Real estate investor Dan McGowan has offered $1 million, or $750,000 plus 22 acres of his land for park use, to purchase the site. Neighbors and park advocates oppose the sale, saying the land should remain public. Councilor Chris Lavin argues that selling could put the property on the tax rolls, help reduce local taxes, and allow new housing development.
City Council will take public input at the hearing before deciding whether to move forward with McGowan’s proposal.
