Post Debby, Law Enforcement Encourages Caution on Finger Lakes

SHARE NOW

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has issued a boating advisory for Keuka, Seneca, and Canandaigua Lakes.

The heavy rains on Friday washed assorted debris, trees, and limbs into the lake from the many creeks and gulleys that empty into the lakes. The Sheriff’s Office urges boaters to use caution, be observant of floating debris, and reduce speeds to no wake as the waters have risen considerably, even over docks in some areas. A reminder that it is New York State Navigation Law on Keuka Lake to be no more than 5 miles per hour boating within 200 feet of shore. Any hidden obstructions are likely to be inside those distances.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is also urging boaters to use caution on any waterways in the county over the next several days due to the amount and size of debris in the lakes.
