Two Seneca Falls residents are facing felony drug charges following the execution of a search warrant tied to an ongoing narcotics investigation, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Timothy Thompson said investigators carried out the warrant on Wednesday at a home in the town, where they seized 50 baggies of fentanyl, approximately six pounds of marijuana, and $122,000 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Mackenzie Verkey was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. Authorities also charged 27-year-old Devin Verkey with one count of criminal possession of cannabis in the second degree.

Both were processed at the Seneca County Jail. Mackenzie Verkey was released on her own recognizance following arraignment. Devin Verkey was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Seneca Falls Town Court in April to answer the charge.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Seneca Falls Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and the Geneva Police Department.

Authorities note that criminal charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
