Police Arrest PA Man for Scamming Geneva Resident Out of $80K

SHARE NOW

Police in the City of Geneva have arrested a Pennsylvania man accused of scamming a resident out of tens of thousands of dollars.

According to the Geneva Police Department, Abhishek Rameshbh Patel was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. Investigators say Patel posed as a Federal Trade Commission officer and, during two phone calls in June, convinced a Geneva resident they owed money, ultimately scamming the victim out of approximately $80,000.

Detectives say they were able to lure Patel back to Geneva by arranging a fake follow-up payment. Patel allegedly returned to the victim’s home to collect more money and was stopped by Geneva police shortly after leaving the scene.

Police believe Patel may have carried out similar scams in other parts of New York State. He was processed and taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment, then released on his own recognizance.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
