Plea Deal Made to Waterloo Town Supervisor, Board Member

The Seneca County District Attorney’s Office has offered a plea deal to Waterloo Town Supervisor Don Trout and board member Bob Lotz, who face burglary charges for allegedly entering the town Highway Department in March 2024 and damaging a television.

According to reports, Trout and Lotz used their keys to enter the building and damaged a television after Highway Superintendent Joe Mull did not remove it as instructed. The Finger Lakes Times reports the two made the TV inoperable.

Yates County District Attorney Todd Casella, who is prosecuting the case for the Seneca County DA’s Office, proposed reducing their charges to misdemeanor criminal mischief and dropping burglary charges against Trout’s girlfriend, Michelle Geraghty, who drove them but did not enter the building. The main issue in negotiations is whether Trout and Lotz will receive probation or a conditional discharge. The pair, currently facing felony burglary charges, are set to discuss the plea in court on April 14.

Both have stated they will not resign and plan to seek reelection in November.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
