Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital (SSMH) and Geneva General Hospital (GGH) continue to have the fastest Emergency Department (ED) throughput times among all hospitals in the region.
UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health said the rankings are a result of data compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
The ranking methodology was based on the median time from arrival to discharge for patients seeking emergency care at 145 New York State emergency departments. The comprehensive data, covering the period from April 2023 to March 2024, was analyzed and reported in 2025.
In addition to being the fastest in the region, SSMH is ranked number 10, and GGH is ranked number 44 out of all New York State hospitals.
“We pride ourselves on increasing access to care for our communities, and our short wait times are another way that we are demonstrating this commitment. In addition, to our short throughput times (from arrival to discharge) the average time to see a physician at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital is seven minutes and at Geneva General Hospital it is 24 minutes,” said Dr. Matthew Talbott, Vice President, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer for UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health. “We are very fortunate to have a skilled, compassionate, and efficient team at both of our emergency departments who remain committed to ensuring our patients receive prompt and attentive care”.
