Parade, Ceremony Highlight Memorial Day Commemoration in Seneca Falls Monday

The Veterans Council of Seneca Falls has released the schedule of events to celebrate Memorial Day in the Town of Seneca Falls.

The parade will be held on Monday, May 26th, starting at 9:15 AM at the Mynderse Academy parking lot on Troy Street and proceeding to Veterans’ Park (formerly Academy Square). Marchers should report to Mark Fifield, Parade Coordinator, at 8:45 AM.

The parade will be led by the Veterans of All Wars and local officials. Parade Grand Marshal will be Eugene Miller, a lifelong resident of Seneca Falls. A Veteran, Miller served in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. As a member of the American Legion Post 366 Color Guard and Honor Guard, Miller has supported local families with funeral services for Veterans for over 48 years. Gene graduated from Mynderse Academy, attended Cornell University, and then worked at Sylvania as an engineering technical associate, traveling Worldwide for the company. He then worked in construction for many years until his retirement. Gene and his wife, Cindy, have blended families with four daughters, one son, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Ceremonies honoring the Dead of All Wars will be held at 10:00 AM in Veterans’ Park. Master of Ceremonies will be Art Evans, Past Commander of American Legion Post 366. Invocation and Benediction will be delivered by Father J. Brad Benson of Trinity Episcopal Church in Seneca Falls. The Gettysburg Address will be recited by Cailette Sawtelle, a Junior at Mynderse Academy. Keynote Speaker will be Nellie Ludemann, Museum and Community Relations Manager for the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls. A graduate of SUNY/Buffalo State, she has held positions at the Holland Land Office Museum in Batavia, NY and at the Seneca Falls Historical Society Museum prior to her current position at the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Nellie and her husband, Gavin, reside in Auburn.

At the conclusion of the ceremonies, the public is invited for refreshments at The American Legion located at 48 State Street, provided through the courtesy of The American Legion. The VFW, located at 47 Fall Street, will also hold an open house.
