NEWS RELEASE –

Seneca Falls, NY— Friends of Women’s Rights National Historical Park (NHP) along with Women’s Rights NHP invite guests to a book launch with author and founding park superintendent Judy Hart on October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Park’s Wesleyan Chapel. Hart’s book, A National Park for Women’s Rights: The Campaign That Made It Happen, recounts the story of how the first National Park dedicated to Women’s Rights was established in Seneca Falls, NY. This event is free and open to the public.

The book launch begins with a panel discussion at 11:00 a.m. in the Historic Wesleyan Chapel, led by Judy Hart, author and founding superintendent of Women’s Rights NHP (Seneca Falls, NY) and Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park (Richmond, CA). Hart will be joined by other Park advocates of the 1970s and 1980s, including Marilyn Bero, Greg Cotterill, Bert Fortner, Coline Jenkins (great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton), Hanns Kuttner, Dr. August Sinicropi, Marty Toombs, Dr. Judith Wellman, and Carol Ritter Wright. Panelists will discuss the uphill battle to establish the first “idea park” in the National Park Service dedicated to Women’s Rights, located at the site of the 1848 Women’s Rights Convention. Following the panel discussion, Hart and panelists will answer questions from the audience.

At 2:00 p.m. Judy Hart will greet visitors and sign copies of her new book at the Fall Street Visitor Center at Women’s Rights NHP. Hart’s book is available for purchase onsite at the Park bookstore or online through Cornell University Press, Amazon, and www.JudyHart.com.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Judy Hart’s new book about the hard won battle to establish a National Park for Women’s Rights in Seneca Falls, NY,” said Emily McCarter, President of Friends of Women’s Rights National Historical Park. “Hart is a champion for women’s rights who models grit, perseverance, and a fierce commitment to honoring women’s stories.”
