Pair Charged with Animal Cruelty after Dog Euthenized

Two Geneva residents are facing animal cruelty charges after a dog had to be euthanized.

According to the Ontario County Humane Society, they received the report of an emaciated dog at a Wadsworth Street home, Sunday, that was crying and had been kicked several times by 61-year-old Anthony DeMarco.

The dog, a 12-year-old female mix named Nina, was taken to a local vet and found to have advanced cancer, a flea infestation that caused her to lose her fur, and several untreated sores and growths. She had to be put down.

The dog’s owner, 49-year-old Urania Warona, is alleged to have known about Nina’s condition for several months but never sought medical treatment or assistance from a veterinarian or other agency.

Both DeMarco and Warona were issued appearance tickets for Geneva City Court at a later date.
