Whether you’re new to kayaking or just looking for a fun day by the water, PaddleFest Geneva might be the perfect way for you, your family, and friends can celebrate the holiday weekend.
The free event takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Geneva Lakefront near the Welcome Center on Lake Front Drive. Hosted by the Geneva Business Improvement District and several outdoor recreation groups, PaddleFest is geared toward beginners—no experience or equipment required.
Participants can try out a variety of kayaks and paddling gear, learn safety tips, and get hands-on coaching from ACA-certified instructors Don Urmston and Scott Janas. Adaptive equipment will also be available to make paddling accessible to everyone.
“This event is all about enjoying our lakefront and lowering the barriers to entry,” says Catherine Price, Director of the Geneva BID. “Seneca Lake is an amazing resource and we want residents and visitors to explore all the lake has to offer. We want people to see that kayaking is for everyone—no matter your age, ability, or experience.”
PaddleFest Geneva is sponsored by the New York State Canal Corporation and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor as part of the Erie Canal Bicentennial Celebration—honoring 200 years of history, recreation, and community along New York’s iconic waterway.
