Ovid Donations Continue as the Fire Debris Clean-Up Begins

SHARE NOW

The outpouring of support continues for Ovid residents that lost everything and those that lost their jobs after last week’s fire that destroyed 6 businesses and 11 apartments.

This afternoon the Ovid Fire Department will provide a pop-up grocery store at the firehouse.  The store will be open from 4 to 7 today and again tomorrow. They are also asking for donations of toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, laundry soap, and dish soap.

Also today and tomorrow the Ovid VFW will be open 12pm-7pm offering anyone $5 bags to shop. Must bring your own bag. This is another fundraising opportunity to assist in Ovid Fire Relief.

The South Seneca Ecumenical Food Pantry at Ovid Federated Church is open today 10am-1pm and Thursday 5-7pm. The pantry is open to anyone, and they will likely have items like produce, dairy, and eggs.

The Seneca County Senior Center has announced that starting tomorrow they will offer free bus transportation for Ovid Seniors Citizens impacted by the fire to Walmart and Tops. You have to make reservations by calling 315-539-1780. Meanwhile, Walmart in Seneca Falls has donated gift cards for those that lost everything in the fire and they have set up a donation box at the store.

Athletics at Honeoye Central

Help for Ovid is coming from around the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.   The Honeoye Girls Varsity and JV Basketball teams filled a bus with donations and collected money for recovery efforts. The Rye Bar and Restaurant in Elmira Saturday delivered wraps and fresh fruit.

Clean-up of the piles of debris will begin today.
