An Oswego man has been arrested following an investigation into an identity theft case, state police announced.
The investigation began in November 2024 when the Red Creek victim reported that multiple credit card accounts had been opened in their name without their authorization, police said, adding that the fraud was discovered once financial institutions contacted the victim regarding balances owed on accounts the victim did not open.
An investigation determined that the accounts were fraudulent.
The investigation culminated in the Saturday arrest of 35-year-old Thomas Alnutt. He was charged with second-degree Identity Theft, a felony. He was issued an appearance ticket for Wolcott Town Court, scheduled for Thursday.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
