A woman was killed and a man injured in an early morning house fire Tuesday in the Town of Hopewell.
The Ontario County 911 Center received a call around 2:35 a.m. reporting a fire at 3915 Stoddard Road. When deputies arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.
One resident, 66-year-old Michael Wright, managed to escape the burning home and went to a neighbor’s house to call for help. He was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment and has since been released.
The second resident, 70-year-old Deborah Wright, was found deceased inside the home by the Ontario County Fire Investigation Team. Her body was transported to Geneva General Hospital for an autopsy.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario County Fire Coordinator’s Office. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
Firefighters from several departments worked to extinguish the blaze, including Hopewell, Canandaigua, Veterans Affairs, Seneca Castle, Oaks Corners, and Shortsville.
