It’s called ” OCTAC”, the Ontario County Threat Assessment Committee. It’s a multi-agency collaboration aimed at preventing acts of targeted violence in the county. Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione says they have already had several incidents that they were able to act on.
The committee is made up of law enforcement, government officials, school district representatives, and business leaders who work together to mitigate potential threats before they escalate. Sheriff Cirencione says they have learned that people always have some information, they just often don’t share it.
“The formation of OCTAC represents Ontario County’s commitment to taking preventive measures against the kind of tragic events we’ve seen too often around the country,” said Sheriff Cirencione. “By bringing together law enforcement, schools, businesses, government agencies, and citizens, we’re creating a coordinated approach to identify threats early and intervene before violence occurs.”
OCTAC’s model, which is grounded in collaboration and prevention, involves community outreach and the training of individuals within organizations who can alert OCTAC when they witness concerning behavior by an individual or individuals.
“Ontario County residents are encouraged to be part of the solution by reporting suspicious activity through the Ontario County Sheriff’s app, which features a direct link to the OCTAC
reporting platform,” said Sheriff Cirencione. “This easy-to-use tool allows citizens to provide tips and share concerns with law enforcement in real-time.”
The app is available for download on all major platforms where apps are sold, making it more convenient than ever for the public to contribute to community safety.
