The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office hosted a Law Enforcement Chaplain Training Seminar this week, bringing together chaplains and law enforcement professionals from across New York State.
The event, sponsored by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, drew 25 participants representing 13 counties. Training sessions focused on key topics such as peer chaplaincy, delivering death notifications, and building resilience within law enforcement.
The seminar was led by Jim Bontrager, Chaplain of the Elkhart, Indiana Police Department and past president of the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked Bontrager for leading the training, the attendees for their participation, and Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone for helping make the event possible.
Sheriff’s Offices represented at the seminar included Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Schuyler, Chautauqua, Greene, Ulster, Delaware, Rensselaer, Orleans, Montgomery, Monroe, and Allegany counties.
