The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers posing as law enforcement officers and demanding money.
Authorities say several people have reported receiving calls from individuals claiming to be members of the sheriff’s office. The callers tell victims a family member needs bail money and request immediate payment.
The sheriff’s office emphasized it will never ask for or demand payment over the phone or use similar tactics.
Residents who receive such calls are urged not to provide personal information or send money. Officials say people should hang up and contact the sheriff’s office directly at 585-394-4560 to verify any claims.
The warning comes as similar scams continue to target communities across the region, often using urgency and fear to pressure victims into sending money.
