The driver of the Geneva City School bus involved in an accident Monday afternoon is being praised by law enforcement for her quick reactions and keeping everyone on board safe.
A New Jersey woman was driving west on Billsboro Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of County Road 6 and crashed into the front wheel well of the northbound bus. Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione says the job that Cassandra Powers did after temporarily losing control of the bus was admirable.
“She was able to quickly recover and was able to safely steer this bus off the west shoulder of the road and basically put it between a utility pole and tree with not much room on either side but was really the only safe option for her once the impact redirected the position of the school bus,” said Cirencione on Tuesday’s FLX Morning on Finger Lakes News Radio. “Kudos to her (Cassandra)!”
Powers, a bus monitor, and the three students on board were not injured. The driver of the car, Ingrid Crane, was airlifted to Strong for head and internal injuries and was ticketed for failure to yield and speeding.
