Ontario County Sheriff’s K9 Kelly Retires

On February 1st, the Ontario County Office of Sheriff and Sgt. Stephen Swarthout announced the retirement of K9 Kelly.

K9 Kelly retired after 8 years of service to the members of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Ontario County alike. K9 Kelly joined the Sheriff’s Office as a partner to then Dep. Stephen Swarthout in March 2015. He immediately took on several roles partner and protector of Dep. Swarthout, Sheriff’s Office socialite, where he has spent hundreds of hours visiting with countless Sheriff’s Office members and visitors including children and victims, whom Kelly has always made feel welcome. In his 8 years of service, K9 Kelly has located dozens of missing persons and wanted subjects, cleared hundreds of buildings, located countless packages of illicit drugs, and most importantly, assured the safety of his partner, Sgt. Swarthout.

“K9 Kelly is an icon of the Ontario County Office of Sheriff and we wish K9 Kelly a happy retirement, said Ontario County sheriff David Cirencione.

K9 Kelly will remain with Sgt. Swarthout and his family in retirement.
