Ontario County Opens Enrollment for Agricultural District No. 1

SHARE NOW

Ontario County landowners have the opportunity to propose adding land to Consolidated Agricultural District No. 1 during the upcoming open enrollment period from November 1 to November 30, 2025.

Landowners can obtain the enrollment form from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors or online at ontariocountyny.gov/1608/Annual-Ontario-County-Agricultural-District.

Inclusion in a county-administered, state-certified agricultural district offers protections for agricultural land, including limits on eminent domain, certain taxes or fees in improvement districts, and nuisance lawsuits related to sound farming practices.

Requests for inclusion must include:

  • Tax map identification numbers for each parcel
  • A description of the commercial agricultural operation or other activities on the land
  • For start-up operations, a description and business plan, if available

Completed forms can be submitted to Kristin Voss, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, at:

Mail or hand delivery:
20 Ontario Street
Canandaigua, NY 14424

Digital submissions:
[email protected]

All requests must be received or postmarked by November 30, 2025.

After the enrollment period, proposed parcels will be reviewed by the Ontario County Agricultural Enhancement Board, which will make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. The Board will then submit its final recommendations to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets for inclusion in the district.
