With Election Day behind him, Ontario County District Attorney-Elect Jason MacBride has announced the first prosecutor to join his office when he takes office in January.

James Nobles, a Livingston County native, brings extensive experience from both sides of the courtroom. He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Monroe County, handling hundreds of criminal cases and maintaining an undefeated jury trial record. During that time, Nobles prosecuted cases involving domestic violence, assault, burglary, drug possession, and DWI, earning a reputation for fairness, diligence, and exceptional trial preparation.

In 2005, Nobles transitioned to private practice, building a distinguished career as one of Western New York’s leading criminal defense attorneys. His work includes 26 murder trials and hundreds of jury and bench trials covering offenses ranging from fraud and conspiracy to assault, money laundering, and major drug conspiracies.

MacBride praised Nobles’ perspective, noting that his experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney provides a balanced and practical understanding of the justice system, aligning with MacBride’s commitment to fairness, accountability, and integrity in prosecution.

“James Nobles is a highly experienced trial attorney with an impeccable record of success,” MacBride said. “He brings unmatched tenacity, preparation, and a balanced perspective to the District Attorney’s Office. His experience and integrity will serve the people of Ontario County exceptionally well.”

Born and raised in Conesus, Nobles earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Nazareth College (now Nazareth University), graduated cum laude from New York Law School, and earned a master’s in criminal law with honors from the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Nobles will officially join MacBride’s team in January.
