An online petition to revoke the teaching suspension of a Hobart and William Smith Colleges professor has more than 3,000 signatures in support.
The individual responsible for trying to get Jodi Dean back in the classroom said her suspension “amounts to “a grave violation of both freedom of speech and academic freedom.”
Dean was relieved of her teaching responsibilities over the weekend after she wrote in an online blog she was energized by Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel last October.
Colleges President Mark Gearan called Dean’s comments “repugnant” and that HWS will not condone or praise violence, particularly when that violence is directed at individuals based on religion, race, or national origin.
